CONTEMPORARY
If you like jazz and ballet, then you will LOVE contemporary.
Contemporary Dance Classes
Contemporary is the chameleon of the dance world. With firm roots in ballet technique, contemporary is an expressive style of dance that has emerged and grown to encompass many different dance styles. Because it combines elements of ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance, contemporary adapts well to a variety of different styles of music including jazz, rock and roll, classical, hip hop, and more.
Though contemporary dance initially began at the start of the 20th century, it has become most prevalent in America in the last decade or so, thanks to popular television shows like So You Think You Can Dance.
The goal of a contemporary dance class is to prepare a dancer’s body for a wide range of movement possibilities. Quick directional changes, fluid progressions, counter balances, and sustained positions are common characteristics of contemporary dance choreography.
Because contemporary dance is very unique to each individual, it is extremely valuable for students to experience classes with multiple instructors. At KDC, we believe this is important for contemporary and all other styles of dance as well.
