Tap Dance Classes
Tap is one of the only styles of dance that you can both see and hear. Today, there are two prominent styles of modern tap dance: Broadway and Rhythm. Broadway tap focuses largely on dance movement and technique, accentuated by tap sounds. Rhythm tap is more heavily focused on the complexity of tap sounds and is danced closer to the floor, without much upper body movement.
At KDC, dancers may begin learning tap at the age of four. Mastering the fine motor skills of the feet is an important part of learning to tap dance. New tappers are trained to create sounds with larger movements at first. As dancers progress from beginner to intermediate and advanced, the movements become smaller, faster, and more complex.
Tap classes at KDC make use of nearly all of the different styles and eras of tap dance. Inspired by Lindy Hop, Irish step dance, ballet, musical theater, ballroom dancing, jazz, and more, our fantastic tap faculty makes it easy and fun to learn and love tap.
