BALLET
Classical ballet technique creates strong and adaptable dancers.
Classical Ballet Technique
Philosophy
At Kennebec Dance Centre, we strongly believe that ballet technique is vital to a dancer’s training. From body placement and flexibility to continuity of movement and theory, ballet is the foundation upon which all other styles of dance are built.
Method
Our ballet faculty has meticulously trained in the Vaganova (Russian) method as well as the Cecchetti (Italian) method. In today’s dance world, it is widely believed that a well-rounded ballet education is important. Many schools and professional companies have adapted to an all-encompassing methodology; what some refer to as simply “classical” ballet.
KDC is at the forefront of dance education in central Maine and we do our best to help our students build a strong foundation in Vaganova technique but also help them learn and recognize Cecchetti, Balanchine, and other methods. Our goal is to help prepare our dancers for collegiate dance programs, prestigious summer intensive programs, and even professional dance company auditions.
Something for everyone
There is a place for every dancer in our KDC ballet program. For those who wish to dance simply for fun and for those who wish to make dance a lifetime career, we have a ballet class to fit your needs.
Pointe
En Pointe
To dance en pointe is the dream of young ballerinas everywhere. The graceful and effortless movements of a well-trained pointe dancer can inspire a love of ballet in the hearts of many. Though while these movements may appear effortless, it takes a great deal of hard work and years of training to build the strength necessary to dance en pointe.
Requirements
At KDC, a dancer’s safety is of the utmost importance to us. For this reason, we require a minimum of three years of ballet technique and consistent attendance in two or more ballet classes per week before a dancer may be considered for pointe class. This is critical for injury prevention.
Training
Pointe training begins with Pre Pointe class to build ankle strength and progresses from beginner to intermediate and advanced pointe. Registration for pointe class is through instructor placement only. Please contact us for more information regarding placement and registration.
